How is an AI text detector different from a plagiarism checker?
A plagiarism checker compares text against a source database to find copied passages. An AI text detector classifies whether prose was AI-generated. Learnaway does neither: it reads the writing process, so it catches AI use regardless of whether the text has been paraphrased or edited afterwards.
Can this detect AI text that a student has edited?
Yes. Editing after pasting doesn't erase the original paste event. AI-generated text that arrives as a large paste and is later lightly edited still shows a very different process from genuine drafting from scratch.
Does Learnaway analyse the text itself?
No. Learnaway captures only event metadata: event types, timestamps, timing deltas, and lengths. The characters a student types are never captured or stored. This is both a privacy feature and what makes the signals style-neutral.
